Seoul, Korea, September 19, 2022 – Global leading tire company Hankook Tire published its 2021/22 ESG Report which includes the company’s sustainable management activities and achievements in 2021 and its mid- to long-term Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies.
Hankook Tire has been publishing the ESG report since 2010, with the 2021/22 edition marking its 13th issue. The report includes Hankook’s achievements in each of the three priority areas of ESG: Eco Value Chain, Sustainable Product, and Responsible Engagement. The priorities have been set under its ESG vision that was renewed last year.
In specific, with the increasing awareness of climate change and the need for solutions, the report covers in detail Hankook’s roadmap to carbon neutrality in the highlights section. In addition, disclosures of the report are more in accordance with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations compared to the previous year.
Hankook Tire continues to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening sustainable management through implementation. In May this year, Hankook Tire announced the establishment of a corporate governance charter to lay the groundwork and enhance transparent ESG management. This was following the ESG committee launch under the board of directors in July 2021. The ESG committee has eight subcommittees that focus on specific area with expertise, through which Hankook Tire shares its vision of sustainability with executives and employees, and improves its ESG management.
It was back in 2009 that Hankook Tire first created a dedicated CSR organization. In the following year, the company set up an EHS integrated management system as the ground for promoting company-wide CSR activities. Moreover, in 2018, the company developed sustainable natural rubber policies and made E-Circle declarations.
Upon long-standing dedication to sustainability, Hankook carries out a variety of activities to make a positive impact on society. In particular, Hankook Tire is expanding CSR activities to the topic of mobility, which center around the foundation of the company itself. For example, Hankook has been donating vehicles to social welfare institutions through its Car Donation Project since 2008. By 2021, the number of vehicles provided during the program’s 14 years in running amounted to approximately 630 in total.
Based on these initiatives, Hankook is recognized by prestigious institutions in the field. Starting with its first inclusion on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices in 2011, the company has been listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) World for six consecutive years from 2016 to 2021. Last year, in specific, Hankook was recognized as the top performer in auto components sector, which proved itself as a leader in ESG practices.
